The raku process is so exciting. After bisque firing I glazed this piece with copper luster and white crackle glazes. I put it in the kiln, and fired it to cone 06. The kiln was opened and the piece was pulled out red hot and put into a metal trash can with combustible material, mostly newspaper and sawdust, and left to smolder. Later I pulled it out and rinsed it with cold water. This was the result! It's so much fun to do because it's fast compared to a typical glaze firing which takes many hours. This happens in three hours or less. Also, you can't predict how it will turn out because there are so many variables. It's always a surprise. I'm looking forward to doing more raku firing.
