Actually I don't think we're on West Mesa fire road at this point, but we started and stopped on that trail hence the name. It was a long, ridiculously hot 7+ miles with no one else for company same a group of rangers on horseback who politely inquired as to our water situation (we had plenty at the time, and fortunately enough 4 miles later).
