Doesn't the olive concept just make your stomach slink off to go shudder with horror? But it's really quite fun. You know my thoughts on olives (they only exist to be dunked in gin, and I tend to remove them about 1/2 way through the martini), but for this cocktail I left it in the entire time and enjoyed the increasingly briny presence.

The Bijou Cocktail is no where near as aggressive as a Negroni (mmmmm, Negroni...) which continues, in my experience, to be enjoyed exclusively (and surprisingly widely) by males. Christy was at work when I made the BC, so she hasn't had the opportunity to try it. She did have some of my Derby last night, which perhaps I'll post about in a bit. I'm guessing it was the inspiration for the Manhattan Special, and I liked the Derby a little better.

If you're the type of person that has already invested in Green Chartreuse, you're already looking to try some exotic drinks. This one is the first I've had in a while that really surprised me and I'm looking forward to making it again. Olive and all.

Phrases such as "strange and delightful," coming from you, with regard to gin-based drinks, now raise red flags with me. May I ask what Christy thought of this? Did she also agree it was a party in her mouth or did she think it was something else?

It's not that I don't trust you. It's just that you're braver than I am. If I had any chartreuse I would totally try it, although never, ever with an olive.
